ABOUT US
I'm Dave Bedford, the
Founder of AuDHD Unzipped
Up until receiving my Autism diagnosis at the age of forty, I believed all of my social struggles were purely down to being born Hard of Hearing. Communication challenges, sensory overload, a strong preference for non-verbal communication methods like text or e-mail, frequent misunderstandings. The intense focus required on my part often led to fatigue and cognitive overload, leaving me utterly exhausted.
The result? A common perception that I was socially awkward, or stupid. This, in turn, led to isolation and ostracisation.
The work itself was never the problem. In fact, the industry I chose played to my strengths. Software testing being very binary in nature: it either works or it doesn't. This led me to devise test strategies that helped launch the world's 1st 3G Mobile Network, and implement SMS voting for American Idol. But daily interactions were a struggle. I often worked harder, constantly masking my challenges, and was always on the edge of burnout.
I'm a father to two Neurodivergent children, and I'm AuDHD myself.
Through AuDHD Unzipped, we help individuals to show up as their authentic selves, whether it is within their families, workplaces, or both. We support organisations to embrace Neurodiversity in order to create inclusive teams where AuDHD and other Neurodivergent individuals feel valued, and where their strengths are supported and celebrated. We do this through coaching, workshops, and talks. We also deliver Neurodiversity awareness sessions in schools and local communities.
